The Righteous Among The Nations. The story of Józef Walaszczyk
– If anyone is speaking ill, I look at him with huge disapproval. I also participated in rescue operations during the occupation. I know how difficult it was, what the results were – Józef Walaszczyk emphasized on Polish Radio 24. The vice-president of Polish Society of the Righteous Among the Nations was telling on our air about what he feels hearing words that Poles took part in the Holocaust.

Józef Walaszczyk told also his own story connected with rescuing Jews during the World War II. The first person whom he helped was Irena. The guest of Polish Radio 24 was taking care of the woman, hiding her in his apartment; he obtained papers for her as well.
Despite Józef Walaszczyk’s actions, she was arrested by the Gestapo – during a meeting with other people of Jewish origin who were hiding. Nevertheless, the man was able to arrange their release, buying them out. Within five hours, he organized one kilogram of gold. – I had a lot of friends, I walked around them all. They helped. – says the PR24’s guest.
Irena survived the war years and later has helped with awarding Józef Walaszczyk the title Righteous Among the Nations.
