In 1999, Yad Vashem honored Zbigniew and Kazimiera Zieliński, and also their son – Ryszard. The title The Righteous Among The Nations is an appreciation of their selfless help, implemented with exposing to danger of loss of life during the World War II.

As Ryszard Zieliński mentioned on Polish Radio 24, during working in a workshop, his father met a Jewish marriage – Kazimierz and Paulina Berek. The first stage of help was getting the couple from the Warsaw Ghetto.

“Dad had a pass, he was walking arm in arm with a woman. That meant: they are together. This is how Paulina got out the Ghetto. The case with him, Kazimierz, was worse. Another idea was to be created. Kazimierz left the Ghetto by a car, together with waste (…)” Ryszard Zieliński reported in Polish Radio 24.

Kazimierz and Paulina Berek, after getting from the Warsaw Ghetto, were hidden in Zieliński’s apartment. As Ryszard Zieliński reported, in the house there was a hiding place which one evening saved their lives. “There was a sound of hobbled shoes hitting on concrete. Paulina said to Kazimierz to hide. He jumped to an oblong hiding place under the sill. German came with a caretaker; they were looking for my dad (…). They did not find Kazimierz,” said the guest of Polish Radio 24.
